So as I said in Part 1, the forecast deluge failed to materialise, which allowed us to get outside for some photographs before dark.
Lucy’s dad Geoff had clearly been looking forward to his best man speech for some time. It’s often an opportunity for a father to get his own back for the difficult teenage years, but it was Mark and not Lucy who bore the brunt of it. I can blame Geoff for outing Mark as a fan of Celine Dion; there’s really no excuse. At Geoff’s request, the whole wedding party joined him in song. “My Heart Will Go On” would have been heard ringing around Berkeley Square and beyond. I can’t imagine what passers-by must have thought…
The father of the bride’s humiliation was only the beginning for Mark, though. Best man Stan took over and gave a riotously funny speech which ranks among the very best I’ve seen.
It’s people that make events what they are. Thanks Lucy and Mark for having me along, it was a real pleasure spending the day with you and your guests
